Do you remember Lacey Parker, an 11-year old Special Olympics Louisiana athlete who recently found out that she made her middle school’s cheer squad? She was featured on the August cover of Inside Cheerleading! Lacey, who has Down syndrome, has wanted to become a cheerleader since her older sisters joined cheer squads. In addition to earning a spot on the cheerleading squad, the Atlanta Hawks professional basketball team made her her an honorary member of their cheerleading squad. She also inspires other children with intellectual disabilities to make their dreams come true. Doctors originally didn’t expect Lacey to survive 10 days.
