Parents, athletes, volunteers and sponsors of Special Olympics Florida- Walton County came together and privately raised funds to support three Special Olympics Louisiana families that were displaced by the recent flooding in Louisiana. Special Olympics Florida Volunteer, Rusty Sanders was born and raised in Baton Rouge, LA. Rusty became aware of the families in need through family members in Baton Rouge. He approached County Director, Damien McNeil, and Fundraising Chair, Mike Schumacher, to see how families from Special Olympics Florida could show their support and help Louisiana families in need. A private Go Fund Me Page was created and $1,350.00 was raised in Walton County for the families of these Special Olympics Louisiana athletes.

Rusty Sanders traveled to the Special Olympics Louisiana state office in Hammond this past weekend to present $250.00 in Walmart gift cards along $200.00 in cash to each of the three families. Rusty also delivered a load of donated cleaning supplies and pet food to a local relief agency. The supplies were collected by YOLO Board, a business based in Walton County that has been helping families in Louisiana affected by the flooding.

Thank you to the parents, athletes, volunteers and sponsors of Special Olympics Florida for your support during this time.
