Hammond Smokin’ BBQ Challenge

The 14th Annual Hammond Smokin’ BBQ Challenge is on March 24-25, 2017 located in Downtown Hammond, Louisiana. More Than 60 KCBS TEAMS from around the U.S. will compete against each other and local teams for more than $12,000 in Cash & Prizes. This year’s event will also feature 60+ local teams competing in the Backyard Boogie and the Lamar Outdoor Advertising Chicken Little Contest, making this event the largest BBQ event in the State of Louisiana for the 14th year in a row.

The event also features local bands from around the region playing music on the Northshore Broadcasting stage both Friday night and Saturday. Come and enjoy world class BBQ and listen to local favorites. The Smokin’ Hammond BBQ Challenge is a FREE event. No tickets required. Make sure to visit the Backyard Boogie Contestant area for some delicious treats – Tip-2-Taste! All donations from Tip-2-Taste benefit local charities, including Special Olympics Louisiana!

The Hammond Smokin’ BBQ Challenge is an event where BBQ lovers and the community can come together as one to have a ton of fun in experiencing great people, great food, and great music. We hope to see you there!

Polar Plunge

We’re counting down the days until the chilly plunge we’ve all been waiting for! Don’t forget about our three Polar Plunge events coming up:

Polar Plunge helps raise funds and awareness for our athletes. It is one of our largest fundraisers this year. Why not become apart of something that will create fun-filled memories and leave you feeling “cool”?

State Summer Games

State Summer Games is right around the corner… 22 days to be exact!  Are you ready?!  We are still looking for great Volunteers for this event.  If you have not signed up yet, click here to fill out the online registration form.  We need hundreds of Volunteers to make this event happen, so don’t wait, sign up today!

The event kicks off Friday May 18th with our Opening Ceremonies at the new Southeastern Track & Field Complex for 7pm.  We invite everyone to to pack the stands and cheer on our athletes!  For more information call 1-800-345-6644.

 

St. Patty’s Day

Since St. Patrick’s Day is tomorrow and everyone will be wearing green, take a picture of yourself or family wearing green with a Special Olympics Louisiana logo somewhere in the picture!  Then, send it to us by replying to this post no later than Monday, March 19th at 11am.  We will put the pictures on Facebook and let our fans decide on the best one.  The picture with the most votes wins a prize!  Let’s see how creative you all can be!

That’s right, our 2012 SOL Bowl is coming up April 22nd at Colonial Lanes in Harahan, LA!  Have you signed up yet?  You can do so here

Can you explain what Blues and BBQ is about?

Blues & BBQ is Louisiana’s biggest BBQ challenge.  Its mission is to bring business and tourism to Hammond, while raising money for local charities.

Where does it take place?

It takes place in Downtown Hammond, along the railroad tracks, from the train station past Cate Street Seafood station.

Who does it benefit?

It benefits Special Olympics Louisiana, TARC, and Louisiana Children’s Discovery Center.

What can people expect?

Days filled with food, music and entertainment!  Tyler Kinchen & the Right Pieces and Bottoms Up will provide the musical entertainment for the event.

Why would people want to go?

Why not is the answer!  You spend a perfect day with family, friends and your community enjoying great food, while contributing to 3 local charities that need help!
