Over the Edge is FRIDAY!

Over the Edge will take place this Friday in New Orleans at Benson Tower!    We have many participants who come back year after year.  Read below what Mr. John Charlet had to say about his experience with Over the Edge!  You can register here.

Why NOW, Why EVER? Why would a 71 (and a half) year old want to repel 25 OTE 2014 Official Flyerstories and then ride a helicopter to go train with the Jefferson Parish Sherriff’s SWAT Team?

WELL, first, it is REALLY fun!  Second, it is for a great cause. Third, I get bored easily, so always looking for something to do. Fourth, great views from the building and from the Helicopter ride.

All that said, I’ve always encouraged my five children (2 boys, 3 girls) to set their own limits on what they want to do and can achieve. We all love the outdoors and have all at one time or another done some repelling in the mountains. NOTHING this high, so it seemed a chance to get a new perspective. Did it last year, so was all new. This time, I expect to relax and enjoy the ride in a more leisurely fashion. Unfortunately, the repel guides won’t let me go head first to make this one different.

Last year, and this, my Daughter Aimey (the good or evil twin, depending on which twin you ask) will be along side of me on the repel down. Last year, I did win the race down, but to be fair, she had trouble with the gear. Come out to watch this year’s race (not that we are a competitive family!)

Do come out and support this very worthwhile cause and watch the “Old Guy” glide slowly down the side of the Benson Tower without even a walker to help!

It’s #GivingTuesday!

Be a part of GivingTuesday!!

Today, hundreds of organizations across the United States will come together for a national giving day to celebrate charitable organizations and our causes. Special Olympics Louisiana is one of them.

Today and every day, we empower our athletes to exceed their personal bests on the playing field and in life. But for every Special Olympics champion, there is another who is waiting for the chance to win. Help us get one more athlete onto the playing field for a season – donate and have your gift matched! Every dollar you give will be doubled! Through December 31, 2014, Finish Line will match your tax-deductible donation, dollar for dollar, up to a campaign total of $200,000.

This match will double the impact of every dollar you give. That means Special Olympics will be able to do more for our athletes, reach farther to engage new athletes, and show the world more than ever what people with intellectual disabilities can accomplish.

Will you be one of 250?

Your monthly gift earns us an extra $100!

One of our partners, MTM Recognition, has made a remarkable offer- and we hope you will be a part of it! For every new Sustaining Partner (those who commit to give monthly to Special Olympics) MTM Recognition will donate $100 to our movement. Our goal is to recruit 250 new monthly supporters by October 31, 2014. Please be one of them! The matching gift will do even more to help Special Olympics Louisiana do even more to transform the lives of people with intellectual disabilities and their families. And as a Sustaining Partner, you choose your monthly giving level. You may give $15, $20, or any other amount you are comfortable with.

About Sustaining Partners

As a Sustaining Partner, you’ll receive a beautiful 16 month calendar every year, periodic updates and stories about athletes whose lives are touched by your generosity, exclusive Sustaining Partners e-newsletter and an annual statement for tax purposes. Your support will help provide high quality year-round sports trainings and competitions, recruit and train more volunteer coaches, bring health services to athletes in dire need, make a major difference in the lives of people with intellectual disabilities and their families.

48 hours left to 2013

Time is running out to make your 2013 tax-deductible gift to Special Olympics Louisiana. And with less than 48 hours to go, the stakes just got higher.

We’ve written you about the exciting challenge issued by our partner Finish Line – through midnight tomorrow, they will match your donation, dollar for dollar, up to a campaign total of $250,000.

Every dollar we raise matters. Additional support means more trainings and competitions, more joy and confidence, and more athletes in the swimming lanes, on the soccer fields, and on the running tracks. Please help us stretch a little further to meet this challenge head on.
