Learning a new Sport

Being from South Louisiana, most of us do not get the privilege to learn a new sport on ice.  But, last week, at the Special Olympics North America Conference, one of our athletes, a partner, and a few staff members did just that!  What sport you ask?  Curling of course!

Though we bit the dust (excuse me, ice) a few times in the beginning, we ended up learning a new sport and having a blast doing so!

Now here is the BIG question… Where can we find an ice rink in south Louisiana!

Cheer for Mystie

Special Olympics, Inc. recently sent out a memo about athlete Mystie Lucast…  “Watching Mystie Lucast glide gracefully across the ice, it is hard to believe she was once withdrawn, ducking her head down and avoiding eye contact. When Debby Lucast first met her adopted daughter, Mystie was a neglected toddler who couldn’t walk or talk. She faced many challenges but persevered with support of her family and, according to Debby, gained self-esteem and really blossomed when she began participating in Special Olympics.” Send Mystie a note of encouragement

Were you Freezing for a Reason?

The 4th Annual Freezin’ for a Reason was this past Saturday, January 28th at Cabela’s in Gonzales. Over 100 people jumped into the icy lake Saturday morning all in the name of Special Olympics Louisiana. Teams from across the region were present,  See More pictures from the event.
