Special Olympics Louisiana Athlete, Joel Murray, recently competed in a Special Olympics golf tournament. Murray, along with other Special Olympics athletes, played at the Helsingor Golf Club in Denmark. Joel shot a total of 275 for the tournament which landed him tied for 11th place!

Special Olympics Louisiana golfer, Joel Murray, will compete this weekend in a Special Olympics Golf Tournament in Denmark at the Helsingor Golf Club! He will be competing against twenty (20) other golfers from around the world and the tournament.

Special Olympics Louisiana West Monroe athlete, Joel Murray left today to participate in the AT&T National ProAm Golf Tournament. Joel is one of 4 Special Olympics athletes selected to attend this prestigious event. Joel’s father and long time caddy, Steve Murray is accompanying him.
To get ready for this event, Joel has been practicing every Monday and Wednesday. He has participated in two tournaments recently, including a Father and Son tournament. He has even been nicknamed a “Range Rat” by members of the local golf course, who are all rooting for him! After talking with Joel and his father before they left, Joel said, “I am very excited to play with professionals that I see on TV every weekend.” Joel is excited about the opportunity and hopes he gets to see his favorite golfer, Padre Harrington.

We are proud to announce that Special Olympics Louisiana athlete, Joel Murray has been selected to participate in the National AT&T Pro-Am golf event. Joel will spend several days, at the end of this month, practicing and golfing with national golf celebrities. Only 4 Special Olympics athletes were chosen for this honor in the entire country!
Joel Murray is an outstanding athlete, he won the Special Olympics National Golf Invitational Tournament with a career-best 73 in his final round! This score broke the Special Olympics 18-hole scoring record. In 2009, was selected as the Special Olympics Louisiana Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year. In 2010, place second at the Special Olympics USA National Games and in 2011, place second at the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Athens, Greece.
