Charity Spotlight

Special Olympics Louisiana was honored on the field at the Saints game yesterday as the charity spotlight. We were delighted by the exposure and promotion our mission received. We had volunteers at the gates, athletes and our CEO honored on the field. Ochsner and Verizon Wireless welcomed us to the game as well as promotional displays throughout the duration of the game. Thank you all for bringing much needed awareness to our organization.

Over the Edge is TODAY

This morning, at exactly 8am, brave folks started rappelling down Benson Tower in New Orleans.  Some of the first people to rappel were members of the New Orleans Saints Organization, including Rita Benson LeBlanc.  Close to 50 people will rappel today along with taking a helicopter ride to the Jefferson Parish Sheriffs Office to engage in S.W.A.T. Training.

Members from our staff and some of our athletes will be on hand in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome this Sunday when the Saints take on the Washington Redskins.  Be sure to cheer them on if you are there!  WHO DAT?!

Geaux Over the Edge

Over the Edge is this Friday! There are still a few spots for those daring enough to take part in this once in a lifetime adventure. First you will start with rappelling down the side of the 26 story Benson Tower (that’s over 400 ft!). Then you will be whisked away in a helicopter from the Superdome to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office SWAT Training Facility. Here you will participate in several training exercises and receive a SWAT team jacket. Then you will be flown back to the Superdome. Don’t miss this chance, sign up today! We dare you!

That Time of Year

It is that time of year. The time when our beloved New Orleans Saints will once again take to the gridiron in hopes of another Super Bowl victory.  Here, at Special Olympics Louisiana, we are very proud to work with the Saints on many projects throughout the year.  We are very excited to watch this Sunday as the Saints will match up against the Arizona Cardinals in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio.

From all of our athletes, coaches, volunteers, and staff at Special Olympics Louisiana, we wish the Saints a great 2012 season!  Geaux Saints!

Did you know that flag football will be held at Special Olympics National Games in 2014?  It’s true!  Special Olympics athletes will be able to compete in this sport along with 13 other sports that will be offered.
