We’re super excited to announce that Special Olympics will be back for our annual NBA Cares Unified Basketball Game at#NBAAllStar! NBA All Star Weekend is taking place in New Orleans, LA this weekend and we are thrilled to take part in the festivities!
Stay tuned for more information about our East & West teams, with players from all over the world (Including a few SOLA athletes!), as well as an announcement around our unified partners & coaches!
As one of only 12 Special Olympics athletes, Special Olympics Louisiana’s own, Jacob Majors was chosen to participate in the fourth annual NBA Cares Special Olympics Unified Sports® Basketball Game, as part of this year’s NBA All-Star 2015 in New York, on Saturday. For the very first time, Special Olympics athletes played at New York’s Madison Square Garden – The World’s Most Famous Arena.
Jacob Majors’s unforgettable adventure in New York included participating on a Special Olympics Unified Sports basketball team with current NBA and WNBA stars and past NBA Legends. In an extremely close game, Team East (grey jerseys) emerged as the winner of the game! Team West got out to an early lead, up 32-24 at the end of the first half, but Team East quickly picked up speed, to emerge victorious, with a nail biter final score of 58-56. It was a very well-played game.
Jacob Majors is in New York City this weekend. Jacob, who is a SOLA athlete from Lake Charles, is not there for vacation, however. He is there to compete in the NBA Unified Basketball game with NBA Stars in Madison Square Garden! This is the second time Jacob has participated in this event (his first was last year in New Orleans) and he is the FIRST Special Olympics Athlete to be asked back to participate!

There is still time to participate in the 12th Annual SOL Bowl. With the tagline, “Laissez les bon temps bowle!” (Let the good times bowl!) the event will take place this weekend at Colonial Bowling Lanes in Harahan, Louisiana.
Team up with past and present NFL, NBA and MLB players, as well as, local news and sports media personalities to bowl for a good cause! Special Olympics Louisiana, The NFL Players Association, Kenner and Harahan Police Departments, invite businesses and the community to register their team. This event joins businesses with local celebrities and SOLA athletes all bowling together while enjoying a day of fun, food, and music.
The event is open to the public and will be held on Sunday, May 18th at 11:30am to 3:00pm at Colonial Bowling Lanes in Harahan, Louisiana. There will be food, drinks, raffle items, awards for those who bowl a strike and a silent auction. Participants looking to join in on the fun can contact Maria Sanchez at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 1-800-345-6644.
On Sunday, February 16th, our very own Jacob Majors competed alongside many NBA legends and other Special Olympics Athletes from around the world. Jacob hit 3-pointer after 3-pointer and even secured a bit of air time on ESPN’s “Top 10!”
