It’s Torch Run Week!

Each summer, law enforcement officials carry the Flame of Hope across the state culminating with the Torch Run Final Leg, and the lighting of the cauldron to officially open the Special Olympics Louisiana State Summer Games in Hammond. This torch relay involves more than 1,500 law enforcement officers and personnel representing more than 200 law enforcement agencies across Louisiana. The 2016 Law Enforcement Torch Run has kicked off and is taking place in cities across Louisiana all week long. Look out for it passing through your town on the way to Hammond! Did you know that The Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics Louisiana, or LETR, unites officers from law enforcement agencies and corrections departments across the state in an effort to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics Louisiana? Torch Run efforts to raise funds include collecting corporate sponsorships, selling T-shirts, Running, and hosting unique fundraising events.

Fans in the Stands

You have read about and know that State Summer Games will take place on May 22-24th (Memorial Day Weekend) in Hammond, LA on the campus of Southeastern Louisiana University.  But, did you know that our Opening Ceremonies will be held on Friday, May 24th at 7:30p in Strawberry Stadium?  It’s true!  We want you to be a FAN in the Stands!  Come out an cheer on our athletes!

The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) partners law enforcement agencies to promote awareness & relationship building between officers & persons with intellectual disabilities.  It is the largest grassroots fundraising event & has become the most highly successful public awareness campaign in our history. Special Olympics Louisiana has over 150 agencies involved in the Louisiana Law Enforcement Torch Run Movement and they raised over $270,000 for us last year alone! Learn more

LETR Conference

Tomorrow, law enforcement officers will gather in New Orleans for our annual State LETR Conference.  Topics of discussion will include: athletes & families, successful events and recruitment.  The theme for the event will be “He Wears the Badge, She Wears the Medal” as you can see pictured below.
