A Royal Celebration

Special Olympics Great Britain Gymnastics Coach Jane Whetnall has been awarded the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE)  for outstanding service to the disability sport community. The MBE is awarded for a significant achievement or outstanding service to the community or for local ‘hands-on’ service which stands out as an example to other people.

She remarks, “I was especially thrilled that it was Prince William who presented the MBE. He talked to me about disability sport and the fact I would be taking the Great Britain Special Olympics Rhythmic Gymnastic team to LA 2015.” Read the full story on Special Olympics Great Britain’s website

Thanks for your Vote

Thanks from athletesYou might remember that last year we spoke about the Super Service Challenge and encouraged volunteer groups of 3 or more to volunteer for Special Olympics Louisiana and create a video or power point about the experience. A few weeks ago we then asked you to vote on the submissions…well the results are in!

Funk Baby New Orleans volunteered at Over the Edge and created a video about their experience. The Ritz Carlton New Orleans volunteered a the local Camp Shriver and created a power point. The votes have been tallied and Special Olympics Louisiana won $1,100 for the two projects from Companies with a Mission. Thank you to everyone who voted and or participated in the challenge on our behalf. The $1,100 will assist us in providing sports, health, inclusion, and training programs to more than 13,800 people with intellectual disabilities in Louisiana!

Thank You Volunteers

We cannot do all that we do without the support of our dedicated volunteers.  To all of our past, present, and future volunteers, we say THANK YOU!

I shall pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.”

International Volunteer Day

We encourage all of you to get up and volunteer today!  If you cannot volunteer today, take the first step and set up a time to volunteer.

We have numerous events that take place all over the state of Louisiana, so there is something for everyone.  Our 2013 calendar is up and we are looking for volunteers NOW!  There are parish, area, and state events that you can register to volunteer.

We also look for volunteers to come to our office to help with data entry, organizing, and warehouse help, along with a few different internships.  If you you are interested, give us a call at 1-800-345-6644, today!
