SOLA Soccer Camp

Hahnville High School senior, McKenzie Hargis, hosted a Special Olympics soccer camp Saturday, November 14th. Athletes came from New Iberia, St. James Parish, St. John Parish, and St. Charles Parish. The day was spent with athletes breaking off into groups by age to help teach them soccer skills. Past and present Hahnville Lady Tigers soccer players, a few young St. Charles soccer league players, and family and friends of McKenzie helped teach dribbling, passing, and shooting to the participants. Various drills were done so they could incorporate their newly learned skills into playing soccer. After all the hard work, a scrimmage was done to show off their new skills in a game format. The camp finished off with lunch of red beans and rice, prepared by Special Olympics volunteers, and an awards presentation. Each athlete received a certificate of participation as well as every volunteer and unified partner. This event would not have been possible without Hahnville High School allowing the use of their great facility to host, and the help of Theresa Theriot of Bayouland Special Olympics and her staff of volunteers. Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible!

I have great news. Special Olympics’ partner FINISH LINE-a leading athletic retailer- is offering an exciting challenge:

Through December 31, 2015, FINISH LINE will match your tax-deductible donation, dollar for dollar, up to a campaign total of $200,000.

This Ignite the Change Matching Fund will double the impact of every dollar you give. That means Special Olympics will be able to do more for our athletes … reach farther to engage new athletes … and show the world more than ever what people with intellectual disabilities can accomplish.

Special Olympics athletes are inspiring. They take our breath away every day with their spirit, strength, resiliency, determination, and enthusiasm. They face daunting obstacles, and they triumph.

Your support of Special Olympics can help ignite life-changing opportunities for athletes in Louisiana and all over the world-especially now, when your donation will have twice the impact.

Now is the time to Ignite the Change! Remember, the chance to double your gift to Special Olympics Louisiana ends December 31, so please make your secure, online contribution today.

Make sure your gift is matched! We cannot match previously made contributions. Please use the links in this email to contribute by December 31st.
