The Annual Knights of Columbus Benefit Dinner was a success! SOLA athlete, Hunter Reno, was invited to say the Pledge of Allegiance and was even able to show off his Special Olympics medals that he has won.  At the end of the program, Hunter was even chosen to pull the winning name of the $500 prize award!

Special thanks to Ms. Donna Reno, Hunter’s mom, for donating wine glasses painted by athletes that were sold at the event. The wine glasses were a big hit!

A very special Thank You to the Knights of Columbus Council 2952 (Hammond) for hosting this event for the past 18 years and all those who came out to the event!

Globe Life Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation Awards Grant to Special Olympics Louisiana

Globe Life And Accident Insurance Company and the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation has awarded a grant to Special Olympics Louisiana to start a new baseball program and expand the existing softball program. Special Olympics Louisiana was 1 of 10 nonprofit organizations to receive grants from The Globe Life Texas Rangers Baseball and Softball Foundation. The grant was presented during a pre-game on field ceremony during the Saturday, September 17th game with the Oakland A’s at Globe Life Park in Arlington.

The Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation instituted the Grant Program in 2012 as another means to promote the growth and development of youth baseball and softball. Since its creation in 1992, the Rangers Foundation has constructed 12 baseball fields and supported thousands of children playing for RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) and Miracle League programs. Seven grants were awarded in the first year of the program in 2012, an additional 11 were presented in both 2013 and 2014, and ten were given in 2015.

In February 2014, the Texas Rangers and Globe Life And Accident Insurance Company announced a 10-year agreement establishing Globe Life Park in Arlington as the new name for Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. As part of the agreement with the Rangers, Globe Life is making a substantial commitment to support youth baseball and softball programs in the Rangers’ five-state territory by joining with the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation in the grant partnership program.

Organizations were asked to complete a proposal describing how funding from the grant would allow them to give youth in their area the opportunity to play either baseball or softball. The winners were selected based need and the ability of the proposed program to improve baseball programs in their local areas. FOX Sports Southwest helped to promote the grant program throughout the Rangers entire television territory.

Special Olympics Louisiana’s President and CEO, Pat Carpenter Bourgeois, stated “This gift will allow us to grow our existing softball program, and start a “first-ever” baseball program for Special Olympics Louisiana athletes.  We have athletes waiting to be a part of the first baseball teams developed by us.  Thank you to Globe Life And Accident Insurance Company and the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation for this tremendous opportunity.”

About Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation: The Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation is dedicated to improving the lives of children in need within our community and provides funding for youth in crisis, youth health initiatives, youth baseball programs, and youth education. Celebrating its 25th year, the Foundation has given back more than $14 million to help children in need.
